In a bid to cut pollution and sort out traffic problems in major cities, Google has introduced Green Light.

A system that utilizes AI and Google Maps driving trends to model traffic patterns and generate intelligent recommendations for city traffic engineers, allowing for the optimization of traffic flow.

First announced in 2021, the program is currently undergoing testing in areas with severe traffic issues such as Bangalore, Budapest, Jakarta, Manchester, Haifa, Hamburg, Rio de Janeiro, and Seattle.

Google plans to extend this solution to more cities, aiming for a “greener”, more efficient commute.

Early data shows a 30% drop in intersection stops and a 10% cut in emissions based on testing at 70 intersections in 12 cities from 2022 to 2023!

And Google is estimating that this initiative could potentially save fuel and decrease emissions for up to 30 million car rides monthly.
