Ever wondered how companies like Nike manage to keep thousands of employees on the same page about a particular product, regardless of where they are in the world or what language they speak?
They are masters at managing and distributing context information, a crucial skill in the age of AI.
This week, I was onboarding someone new to help manage our socials, and she was adamant about meeting me in person to learn everything about the product, features, the founding team, and so on. She was planning to spend a couple of weeks taking it all in and learning. Within 15 minutes of her getting to the office, I shared a document with campaigns that highlighted everything she needed to know about each of our features and important talking points.
In less than 30 minutes, she knew everything about our product, how to communicate it, and how not to communicate it. Over the last year, I’ve been trying to keep our campaigns up-to-date because not only does it help me use AI 50-60% faster, it helps everyone else on the team too.
Having run an agency for nearly a decade before selling it, I’ve spent many hours creating campaigns for various companies. But not just any campaigns—the kind that ensure consistent messaging across different departments. The same way that companies like Nike achieve 100% cohesive and consistent information distribution by ensuring everyone works with the same set of data and communicates uniformly. We should apply this approach to feeding AI like ChatGPT. By understanding how to build these campaigns, we can become masters at creating and managing contextual information for AI.
The Power of a Campaign Document
A campaign document is a master file that highlights everything about a business, a partnership, feature, service, or anything at all that a company needs to communicate. It’s your north star for maintaining consistency.
Here’s what a good campaign document includes:
- Goal of the Message: Clearly define what you want to achieve.
- Metrics for Success: Establish how you’ll measure if the message was conveyed correctly.
- User Story: Create a narrative to help people understand the product’s implications. For instance, “John, a 19-year-old, buys Jordan 1s because they make him feel unique and closer to his role model, Jordan.”
- What It Is Not: Define what the product or message is not to avoid miscommunication.
And so much more. I’ve created a basic structure to help you build your own campaigns. Feel free to use it within your organization.
Why Context is King in the Age of AI
In today’s world, context is the most important component, even more crucial than prompts or workflows. The information you pair with the prompts—the context you feed AI—is paramount.
Here’s the formula: Ask + Context = Output
Most people manage a handful of workflows (prompts) daily. For example, a social media manager might create posts, scripts, and blogs. These workflows (prompts) don’t change much, but the application does. While she uses 3-4 prompts to do all of these workflows, given that she does it for 25 clients, she needs 25 completely different contexts (information) about these businesses. She must ensure the content aligns with the website design team, PR team, newsletter writers, and the business department.
The ability to manage, collaborate, and share context information across teams is key. “Context is not just important; it’s essential. The more context an AI system has, the better it can understand and respond,” says Fei-Fei Li, Co-Director of the Stanford Human-Centered AI Institute.
Imagine This with Snack Prompt
We’re working hard on Snack Prompt for Teams, our “Slack of AI.” While part of our team improves our web product, we’re launching features to fix this problem. Imagine everything about your business or your customer’s business saved in a way that’s easily shareable, ensuring consistency across AI workflows.
We’re days away from releasing our Make.com automation 🤫Â
Imagine working from the same set of information, data, and context and using ChatGPT without having to type anything about your business ever again. If everything critical was accessible with a simple command, like:
- Your service descriptions
- Business goals
- Team bios
- Communication guidelines
- And more…
Imagine asking ChatGPT or Gemini to accomplish tasks without worrying about feeding it context because it’s all connected to the right data source. Everyone uses AI but works from the same information set.
Context Powers AI
In a study by MIT, it was found that contextual information improves AI decision-making by up to 60%. Furthermore, a Harvard Business Review article notes that businesses managing context well see a 40% increase in efficiency and productivity.
“The success of AI in business relies on the quality of data and context fed into the system. Poor context leads to poor results. In the age of AI, the most important skill is not prompt engineering, but context managing.”
The Future with Snack Prompt
