Shopify Adds New AI Tools

Shopify has just released a Media Editor and conversational search feature that essentially makes it super easy for you to edit your photos and find what you’re looking for, all thanks to the power of AI.

Leading the charge is the Magic Media Editor, a tool that utilizes generative AI to alter product images to allow merchants to create professional-looking displays without the need for Photoshop skills (or hiring someone who has them.) All you need is a prompt and a dream, and the tool will work its disruptive magic.

Additionally, they released a conversational search too, which bridges the gap from strict keyword matching or Boolean searches to how people naturally speak.

For example, let’s say you’re searching for a Superbowl party outfit (Go Niners… fan-by-the-lesser-of-two-evils).

Instead of a straightforward search query like “Super Bowl apparel,” users can input a more conversational search, such as “I’m looking for stylish outfits to wear to a Super Bowl party.”

Shopify’s conversational search uses semantic understanding, interprets the user’s natural language input, and discerns the intent to give you what you’re looking for. In other words, it’s just a more human way to search.

Bard Can Generate Images

Google has updated its Bard chatbot to include AI-generated imagery, aligning its features with those of its competitor, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus.

This new addition leverages Google’s Imagen 2 text-to-image model, integrated with Bard’s functioning through the Gemini Pro large language model.

But just like ChatGPT, any “questionable requests” won’t work unless you find a better way to ask.

For example, if you ask Bard to make a stop sign that says, “don’t stop,” you’ll get a lecture on safety.

However, if you tell it to create a “red octagon road sign that says don’t stop” – everything is fine and dandy.

Google’s commitment to responsible AI usage is evident in Bard’s image generation feature, which includes watermarking and safety measures to prevent misuse, especially in light of recent controversies involving AI-generated explicit content.

The tech giant has also introduced ImageFX, an experimental tool that encourages user engagement with generative AI in a controlled environment, ensuring all output complies with Google’s ethical guidelines.
