OpenAI has filed to trademark ‘OpenAI o1,’ its first-ever ‘reasoning’ AI model designed to self-fact-check.

As we all know, the technology behind ‘reasoning’ models promises smarter and more reliable AI answers by pondering questions a little longer. OpenAI’s trademark game has been a mixed bag though. Remember when they couldn’t get ‘GPT’ locked down? Still, they’re doubling down on protecting their IP, from ChatGPT to Sora. Oh, and they’re also still in the middle of a legal debacle with a guy who says OpenAI stole his ‘open-source’ AI idea.
