Midjourney Bans Trump & Biden Images

Midjourney has banned prompts related to Donald Trump and Joe Biden to prevent misinformation and the misuse of AI in creating potentially misleading content, especially with the upcoming U.S. election.

The ban aims to curb the spread of doctored images and misinformation, with similar actions taken by other companies like OpenAI and Google.

Abu Dhabi Potentially Investing In OpenAI

Abu Dhabi’s state-backed AI fund, MGX, is in discussions with OpenAI about potentially investing in OpenAI’s chip venture, aiming to reduce OpenAI’s reliance on Nvidia GPUs.

MGX, led by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan, could be a key investor, given Tahnoon’s involvement in various AI and technology initiatives through the UAE-based G42 group.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, has been seeking significant funding, possibly exploring sovereign wealth funds beyond traditional venture capital.

OpenAI is also exploring ways to advance its chip manufacturing capabilities, including potential acquisitions and partnerships for co-designing AI accelerators, with Altman investing in related ventures like Rain AI.

Elon Musk Makes Grok Open-Sourced

Elon Musk has escalated his rivalry with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman by making his ChatGPT competitor, Grok, open-source.

Through his AI company, xAI, Musk released the code for Grok-1, a 314 billion parameter AI model, aiming to provide an alternative in the AI space that aligns with his vision of AI development for the benefit of humanity rather than for profit.

Of course, this move comes amid Musk’s legal battle against OpenAI, accusing it of betraying its original mission by partnering with Microsoft.

Department Of Homeland Security Adopts AI

The Department of Homeland Security has launched an initiative to integrate artificial intelligence across its operations, with three pilot projects aimed at enhancing fentanyl detection, improving disaster preparedness, and advancing immigration officer training.

They plan on collaborating with AI industry leaders like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta, and hiring 50 AI experts.

The outcomes of these pilot projects are expected to be reported by the end of the year.
