Melrose, Mass. introduces an AI-generated podcast where artificial hosts chat about local issues like zoning policies.

Creator Tom Catalini launched the Robocast out of frustration with the lack of hyper-local news coverage. Using tools like Google’s NotebookLM, the project highlights AI’s potential in underserved news areas, but also raises concerns about accuracy and human oversight in journalism.

Catalini acknowledges it’s not a full replacement for local reporting, but in a news desert, even “warm chocolate milk” feels like something.

ChatGPT has officially arrived on Windows, offering select paid users a preview version of the app with features like file and photo sharing and the ability to minimize it into a “companion” window.

Some key integrations, like voice support and GPT Store features are still missing, but OpenAI promises more in the full version coming later this year.

The desktop application is currently available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users.

Meta is collaborating with filmmakers to refine its AI-based Movie Gen tool, which generates HD video and audio from text inputs.

A pilot group, selected by Blumhouse, tested the technology, providing their feedback on its potential and limitations. Movie Gen won’t replace traditional filmmaking, but it’s seen as a valuable tool to inspire new ideas and enhance creativity.

Meta plans to extend its pilot program into 2025, working closely with traditional filmmakers and digital creators to perfect the tool before its release.
