Trump Tariffs Could Skyrocket AI Chip Prices 📈
With Nvidia relying on a new production facility in Mexico, these tariffs could make their already costly GPUs even pricier. The irony? Many companies are already building U.S. plants, but they may not be ready in time to dodge the tariff wave. With Taiwan’s chip dominance also in Trump’s sights, AI execs are bracing for volatile times.
Will these tariffs really boost innovation or throw another wrench into the AI hype machine?
Did a Chinese Ship Cut Europe’s Internet Cables?
🚨🇨🇳NATO TO CHINA: YOU CUT OUR INTERNET CABLES?!
The Yi Peng 3, a 225-meter Chinese cargo ship, allegedly dragged its anchor for over 100 miles in the Baltic Sea, severing two vital fiber-optic cables.

The ship, fresh off a fertilizer delivery to Russia, has drawn suspicion from NATO. The investigators think it was Russia, and the Chinese government hasn’t been implicated. NATO can’t legally compel the vessel’s inspection, leaving Swedish and German officials in a diplomatic dance with the ship’s owner. Meanwhile, German police drones scour the seabed for clues.
This incident joins a growing list of suspected Russian infrastructure meddling, but proving sabotage is about as reliable as Wi-Fi in a storm.

Alibaba’s New AI Model Challenges OpenAI 🤼♂️
🔥 First open source reasoning model from @Alibaba_Qwen just dropped! 😮
Qwen QwQ 32B is in preview, does reasoning like o1 and Deepseek R1 but y’know, on your local machine!
🔗 Demo: https://t.co/L4UCzRehGT

With 32.5 billion parameters and the brain power to tackle complex math and logic puzzles, it surpasses some benchmarks but still has its quirks, like, idk, randomly switching languages? The model is free(ish) under an open license, but not entirely transparent. Also, as you’d suspect of a model coming out of China, it plays by Chinese internet regulations, dodging politically touchy topics.
As AI companies pivot to reasoning-focused models, the battle for smarter, more precise systems continue—and QwQ-32B-Preview steps in as a new rival to OpenAI’s o1-preview and o1-mini.

Marc Andreessen’s Guide to Startup Success (2007) pic.twitter.com/ghrH6bAe3C
— GREG ISENBERG (@gregisenberg) November 28, 2024
Marc Andreessen’s Guide To Startup Success Takeaways:
- Market Trumps All: The success of a startup heavily depends on the market. Even great teams or products can fail in bad markets, while mediocre products can thrive in great markets.
- Obsess Over Product/Market Fit: Before achieving product/market fit, focus solely on finding it. Adapt, change, or pivot as necessary because a lack of market fit is the #1 reason startups fail.
- Market Pulls Products: In a great market, even an MVP can succeed. The ability to ship a working product quickly matters more than perfection in a strong market.
