At his recent TechCrunch Disrupt 2024 interview, a16z’s Martin Casado criticized current AI regulation efforts, which he says are too focused on speculative fears rather than actual risks posed by AI.

Casado says that in most bills drafted, Artificial Intelligence isn’t even well defined and that we shouldn’t be “making regulation off of vibes”. The seasoned tech investor and computer science expert warns that lawmakers are creating policies with poorly defined terms and very little input from AI experts, as seen in California’s recent “kill switch” bill.

Those advocating for AI regulation bring up past tech mishaps, but Casado argues that new AI policies should address AI’s unique risks, not compensate for past tech failures. Are the AI threats real or just scirnce fiction…? 🤔
