Google Engineer Allegedly Stealing AI Secrets For China

Linwei Ding, a Google engineer, has been indicted for allegedly stealing over 500 files related to Google’s AI technology, including designs for Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) chips and data centers, to benefit China-based companies.

Accused of using covert methods to transfer these files and evade detection, Ding juggled roles at Google and a Chinese AI firm, facing up to ten years in prison per count of trade secret theft.

Google emphasizes its strict safeguards and cooperation with law enforcement in response to the breach.

Zapier Buys Video Conference Company

Zapier, known for its workflow automation solutions for small and mid-sized businesses, has recently acquired Vowel, an AI-powered video conferencing company, for an undisclosed sum.

Following the acquisition, Vowel’s CEO, Andrew Berman, will join Zapier as the new Director of AI, bringing valuable AI expertise to the team.

Alongside the acquisition, Zapier announced the launch of Zapier Central, where users can create AI bots to automate tasks across thousands of apps, aiming to speed up business workflows.
