French Authorities Arrest Telegram’s CEO

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested outside Paris while departing his private jet, reportedly due to a warrant related to a preliminary investigation.

French authorities believe that Telegram’s lack of moderation has allowed criminal activities to flourish on the platform which led to the arrest. Durov could face indictment soon, depending on the judge’s decision.

Telegram has been a crucial source of information in regions with heavy censorship but is criticized for its hands-off moderation policy that sometimes only reacts to external pressures.

Google’s $250M Deal With California

Google has agreed to a $250 million deal with California to support local newsrooms — hoping to avoid legislation that would force tech companies to pay for news content indefinitely.

The deal will create two programs: the News Transformation Fund, supporting California-based newsrooms, and the National AI Innovation Accelerator, aimed at experimenting with AI in various sectors.

While the initiative has been praised for potentially revitalizing local journalism, some critics argue it falls short of what’s needed, with concerns about insufficient support from other tech giants like Meta and Amazon.

X Staff They Must Prove Worth To Receive Stock

Elon Musk announced that Twitter employees must write a one-page summary of their contributions to the company to qualify for stock options.

This announcement comes amid delays in the company’s promotion process and pending equity refreshers that were initially promised for April.

The last stock refresh valued the company significantly lower than Musk’s purchase price, adding to concerns about the company’s direction and employee morale.
