YouTube Music Search By Humming

YouTube Music on Android just got a cool new feature: you can now search for songs by humming, whistling, singing, or playing a recording — making it a strong Shazam alternative.

To use it, you can tap the search button in the upper right corner of the app, then hit the new waveform icon next to the microphone.

It’s impressively quick, accurately recognizes most hummed tunes, although there are bound to be some funny mismatches.

The feature isn’t perfect but works well overall. It’s also been spotted on iOS, but not widely available there yet.

Apple’s WWDC May Include AI-Emojis & OpenAI Partnership

Apple is set to reveal its AI advancements at WWDC 2024, with rumors hinting at the following features:

  • Expected announcements include a “smart recap” feature summarizing missed texts, notifications, and other media.
  • AI-generated transcripts for the Voice Memo app and AI improvements for Spotlight search, Safari, and writing suggestions for emails and texts are also anticipated.
  • Apple may also introduce AI-powered photo retouching and emoji generation.
  • Siri might get a more natural-sounding voice and enhanced functionality on Apple Watch.
  • Additionally, iOS 18 may let users change app icon colors more easily and allow app icons to be placed freely on the home screen.

Google Scrambles To Fix Weird AI Answers In Search

Google’s AI Overview tool is still under fire for bizarre suggestions, like putting glue on pizza, eating rocks, and more [although many are fake to engagement farm].

Despite testing the feature for a year and serving over a billion queries, the rollout has been messy. Google CEO Sundar Pichai claimed an 80% cost reduction in delivering AI answers, but it seems the optimization was premature.

With competitors like Bing and OpenAI pushing hard, Google is under immense pressure to compete, leading to these messy AI releases.
