The First Autonomous Racing League Is… Interesting

At the first-ever Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League race, the self-driving cars hit the Yas Marina track with some hiccups.

These cars, decked out with high-tech gear, had a tough time in both the time trials and the race itself, dealing with spins, random turns, and even some wall crashes.

The actual race saw the leading car, Polimove, spin out, but Tum took advantage and snagged the win after eight laps.

It’s clear we’re still early in the game for driverless racing—lots of kinks to iron out, but it’s definitely an interesting start!

DJI Drones Might Be Getting Banned Next

The U.S. might soon extend its tech crackdown to include DJI, the renowned drone maker from China, following recent moves against TikTok.

Lawmakers are discussing a bill that would prohibit DJI drones in the U.S. with proposed legislation aiming to place DJI on the FCC’s list, which already includes companies like Huawei and ZTE, forbidding the use of tech deemed a security risk.

This isn’t DJI’s first rodeo with U.S. restrictions; they were previously placed on the Commerce Department’s Entity List in 2020 and other government blacklists for alleged surveillance activities.

As debates heat up, DJI defends itself against what it calls “xenophobic” and “unsubstantiated” accusations.

Meta’s ‘Set It & Forget It’ AI Ad Tools Blowing Cash

Meta’s AI-powered advertising platform, Advantage Plus, intended to automate ad campaigns efficiently, is reportedly misfiring, leading to exorbitant costs and underperforming ads.

Advertisers, including the co-founder of a marketing agency, have experienced inflated costs per impressions (CPMs) and minimal returns, causing significant financial strain.

The platform’s erratic behavior, along with poor customer support due to staff reductions at Meta, has fueled frustration among marketers.

Apple Vision Pro’s eBay Prices Are Crashing

Less than three months after its release, the Apple Vision Pro is already seeing significant price drops on online auction sites like eBay, much to the dismay of early adopters.

Prices for the high-end VR headset, which initially sold for over $5,000 in some configurations, have dipped to as low as $2,600 on eBay, inclusive of all accessories.

The sharp contrast in prices between the initial cost and current resale values highlights the volatile nature of first-adopter tech investments and the rapid pace at which new gadgets can lose their financial value.
