BNPL Services Have To Follow Credit Card Rules
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau [CFPB] has ruled that Buy Now, Pay Later [BNPL] services must now adhere to the same regulations as credit card providers.
This decision means BNPL companies like Klarna, Afterpay, and Affirm will need to investigate disputed purchases, provide refunds, and offer monthly billing statements to customers.
Klarna claims it already meets these standards but disagrees with being classified as a credit card provider. Affirm’s CEO also stated that the company supports the new regulations, which align with its current practices.
