ChatGPT Has More Monthly Users Than Netflix
ChatGPT became a household name in 2023, but has it maintained momentum following the initial hype? The answer is a resounding “yes,” according to a new FlexOS study.
But while ChatGPT reigns supreme at number one, other tools with more targeted functionality have gained prominence. Here are the top 10:
OpenAI’s chatbot rakes in over half of the monthly users who tap into the tools considered in the study (1.67 billion out of 3 billion). That’s more than Netflix (1.5 billion), Pinterest (1.1 billion), Microsoft (1 billion), Twitch (1 billion), and the New York Times (609 million).
No wonder the Times has blocked ChatGPT from using its articles in its answers, and is suing OpenAI for copyright infringement.

Midjourney Hires Ex-Apple Vision Pro Engineer
In December, Midjourney, an AI-focused company led by David Holz, appointed Ahmad Abbas as head of hardware.
Abbas, previously with Apple’s Vision Pro team, brings valuable product experience to Midjourney, and hints at the company’s potential entrance into the hardware market.
Midjourney is working on a project named Orb, which is centered on 3D data capture for AI training. Although specific details about their hardware efforts are limited, the formation of a hardware team was confirmed by Nick St. Pierre, a creative director specializing in AI, in early January 2024.

Before Midjourney, David Holz co-founded Leap Motion, a company known for its hand motion sensor technology. Although Leap Motion was almost acquired by Apple in 2018, it was eventually bought by Ultrahaptics in 2019, later rebranding as Ultraleap.
